Kyle MacLachlan Reflects on Charlotte’s ‘Perfect Match’ in “Sex and the City” and Potential Return
In a delightful twist of nostalgia, Kyle MacLachlan recently weighed in on the ongoing debate regarding his character, Trey MacDougal, and Kristin Davis’s Charlotte York from the iconic series “Sex and the City.” During a recent episode of Davis’s podcast, “Are You a Charlotte?”, she boldly proclaimed that aside from Charlotte’s second husband, Harry Goldenblatt, Trey was her character’s “best match.” MacLachlan, attending the iHeartPodcast Awards in Austin, humorously echoed her sentiments, stating, “That’s so sweet of her,” and lamented, “I thought I was her perfect match and then they brought in somebody else. It was sad.”
The relationship between Charlotte and Trey, which began with promise in Season 3, quickly spiraled into a whirlwind of dysfunction, driven by personal struggles such as erectile dysfunction and fertility woes. Their tumultuous journey was officially wrapped up by Season 5, leaving fans to wonder about the unresolved feelings and unfinished business between the two characters. Nevertheless, he has recently expressed openness to reprising his role, saying, “I think it would be really fun to return, yeah, I do. They had reached out. I just felt that the idea that they had—I wanted a little bit more to it. I wanted the relationship that we had to be a little deeper.”
