Kailyn Lowry Fires Back at Haters: I’m a Hands-On Mom, Despite What You Think

I’m Riley Carter, and I’m here to spill the tea on Kailyn Lowry’s latest defense of her parenting skills. The Teen Mom alum recently clapped back at social media critics who claimed she doesn’t raise her kids, and let’s just say she’s not having it. In a September 7 TikTok video, Kailyn addressed the speculation head-on, stating, “If you guys could just stop discrediting what I do, that would be fantastic.”
For those who may be out of the loop, Kailyn is a mom of seven – twins Verse and Valley, 21 months, and Rio, 2, with Elijah Scott; Creed, 4, and Lux, 7, with ex Chris Lopez; and Elliot, 15, with ex Jo Rivera. With a household that busy, it’s no surprise she occasionally relies on childcare. “I have childcare, yes. I have help from 8 to 4, Monday through Friday. These are traditional working hours,” she explained. “A lot of people put their kids in daycare from 9 to 5. A lot of people have babysitters that they pay for. I do the same thing.”
Kailyn made it clear that she doesn’t have a live-in nanny or around-the-clock help, and that she’s always available to care for her kids after 4 pm. “If I needed a babysitter, I would have to pay for that,” she emphasized. “If you guys could kindly stop discrediting what I do for my kids, that would be great.” It’s clear that Kailyn is tired of being judged and wants people to understand that she’s doing her best as a mom.
But Kailyn’s not just fighting for her reputation as a mom – she’s also fighting for her kids’ right to be themselves. Recently, her son Elliot came out as gay, and Kailyn was quick to offer her support. On her Barely Famous podcast, she shared her own experiences with dating and emphasized that Elliot should be able to explore his sexuality without judgment. “When you have kids, you have to choose to love them unconditionally because you cannot control who they love,” she said. “You cannot control what their sexuality is. And for me, I never gave a f–k.”
Kailyn’s commitment to her kids is evident in the way she’s raised Elliot, who has grown into a thoughtful, brilliant, and funny young man. In an Instagram tribute on his 13th birthday, Kailyn praised Elliot’s caring heart and his ability to challenge social norms. “He accepts people for who they are and never how they’re ‘supposed’ to be,” she wrote. “More people should be like him.”
As for her co-parenting relationships, Kailyn seems to have a good thing going with her exes. She and Jo Rivera, Elliot’s dad, have settled into a comfortable co-parenting arrangement, and Kailyn even attended Jo and his now-wife Vee Rivera’s 2018 wedding. “We’ve come a long way since we were 18,” Kailyn wrote on social media after the wedding. “I couldn’t ask for a better stepmom.”
Kailyn’s family is certainly complex, but it’s clear that she’s doing her best to give her kids a happy and healthy childhood. And if you’re still not convinced, just check out her adorable kids – Lincoln Marshall Marroquin, born on November 16, 2013, and the rest of the crew. With seven kids to care for, Kailyn’s got her hands full, but she’s proving that she’s up to the task.
Anyway, that’s the deal. Do with it what you will.
