Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Abruptly Axe Their Hulk Hogan Biopic: Inside the Scrapped Epic

Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Abruptly Axe Their Hulk Hogan Biopic: Inside the Scrapped Epic
  • PublishedJuly 30, 2025

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have quietly shelved their long-rumored Hulk Hogan biopic, according to TMZ.

Celebrity production outfit Artists Equity officially pulled the plug on the project months ago, insiders tell TMZ, long before the wrestling legend’s tragic passing in late July 2025. The duo’s planned dramatization of Hulk Hogan’s infamous leaked sex-tape scandal—for which Gawker secured a viral NSFW video featuring a racial slur—never moved beyond early development, sources say.

In an exclusive scoop, TMZ reports that neither Affleck nor Damon consulted Hogan directly, and the wrestler himself showed no appetite to participate. “He was never sold on the idea,” a source close to Hogan confided to People Magazine. Legal weigh-ins from Hogan’s camp also contributed to creative gridlock, insiders revealed to Variety.

Artists Equity had briefly teased star-studded castings and script drafts back in early 2024, sparking heated Hollywood chatter. Yet as one studio insider told The Hollywood Reporter, “They just couldn’t nail the tone—too sensational, too litigious.” Neither Ben nor Matt issued a public statement, but studio execs confirmed the project quietly folded by spring 2025.

The timing has fueled wild speculation that Hogan’s untimely death at 70 spurred the decision, but insiders stress the shutdown occurred well before paramedics found him unresponsive at his Florida home. “This has zero to do with his passing,” a Damon confidant told Deadline. “They walked away on creative grounds, pure and simple.”

Hollywood watchers note that the cancellation marks another setback for Damon and Affleck’s post-Good Will Hunting partnership, following lukewarm receptions to other Artists Equity releases. It also leaves a high-profile gap: Hogan’s life—from wrestling superstar to courtroom battles—remains unchronicled on film.

Could another filmmaker seize the moment and craft the definitive Hulk Hogan saga? Stay tuned, because if there’s one thing we know, Tinseltown never lets a juicy story truly die.
