Travis Kelce Steps In as Teammates Clash at Chiefs Training Camp

During the Kansas City Chiefs preseason training on July 29, star tight end Travis Kelce was among those who jumped in to separate offensive lineman Josh Simmons and defensive end Ashton Gillotte when a sudden scuffle erupted.
Hi, I’m Riley Carter. Here we go: Chiefs camp just got real.
Video captured by KCTV5 reporter Mark Poulose and shared on X shows Simmons gripping Gillotte mid-play, only for Gillotte to shove back and spark a punch from Simmons. Within seconds, teammates swarmed the pair, and Kelce, wearing his familiar No. 87, waded into the fray to defuse the tension. Head coach Andy Reid watched with hands on his hips before guiding both sides back to drills.
Kelce’s intervention fits a larger narrative of leadership growth for the 35-year-old, who publicly lamented his own on field decisions after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss in February. On his New Heights podcast episode, he admitted to second-guessing “tiny decisions” during plays and not keeping his squad “calm, cool, collected.” Teammates and family had his back. Brother Jason Kelce called him “one of the best players to ever play” and reminded Travis that back-to-back Super Bowl wins cemented his legacy, even if the final game fell short.
Nutrition and conditioning took priority for Kelce in the offseason. “I am down some weight from the end of the season last year. Each year is different, man. You gotta rebuild it,” he told reporters in June. Coach Reid noticed. At a July 24 media session, Reid remarked that Kelce looked “like he’s 20” and praised his burst on long runs. Clearly, those extra morning workouts paid off.
On field drama might have been squashed in Kansas City, but off field rivalries remain Hollywood’s bread and butter. Take former Queer Eye stars Tan France and Bobby Berk. In January, Berk told Vanity Fair that tension with Tan was personal and not show related. Months later, Tan used his Instagram to deny plotting Bobby’s exit in favor of Jeremiah Brent, saying casting decisions were Netflix’s alone.
Then there’s the decades of speculation between Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano. Their decades old feud bubbled back into headlines after a December 2023 interview, reminding everyone that some grudges simply do not break up as easily as Kelce’s practice sparring partners.
Anyway, that’s the lowdown. Take it or leave it.
