Sofía Vergara’s Second Knee Surgery Recovery Update

Sofía Vergara’s Second Knee Surgery Recovery Update
  • PublishedJuly 25, 2025

Sage Matthews here, your award-winning journalist, and I’m digging into how Sofía Vergara is bouncing back after a second knee operation. In a July 25 Instagram reveal, the Modern Family alum flashed a grin from her doctor’s room, showing off a fresh bandage and brace as she announced “Round 2” of her knee repairs.

In the first of two snaps, Vergara, 53, sat in a blue hospital gown against a privacy curtain backdrop. A close-up followed, exposing a grey calf brace and white dressing on her knee. While the actress didn’t detail the specific injury, this marks her second procedure since April 2024. That initial surgery was handled by then-boyfriend and orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman, whom she publicly praised on Instagram Stories: “If u ever get a [major] knee surgery make sure u get a handsome doctor who will sleep with u that night…! Luv u.” The pair split in January 2025 after more than a year together.

Vergara’s openness about her health journey extends beyond orthopedics. In 2021, she revealed her battle with thyroid cancer at age 28 during a Stand Up To Cancer TV special. “When you’re young and you hear that word, ‘cancer,’ your mind goes to so many places,” she admitted, detailing her decision to educate herself by reading every book she could find. After surgery to remove her thyroid gland and subsequent radiation, she emerged cancer-free. “I was fortunate to have caught it early and to have the support of my doctors and most importantly, my family,” Vergara reflected.

This candid approach has inspired other stars to spotlight their own health challenges. Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar winner and 12 Years a Slave star, disclosed in 2025 that she’d endured uterine fibroids since 2014 but stayed quiet for more than a decade. “When we reach puberty, we’re taught periods mean pain, and that pain is simply part of being a woman,” she wrote on Instagram.

Meanwhile, in July 2025, Daisy Jones & The Six star Suki Waterhouse admitted on X (formerly Twitter) that pants so tight they caused a hernia landed her in hospital. “Have you ever considered I wore pants so tight 6 months ago it caused a hernia & I’ve been too scared to tell you?” she quipped.

Earlier this year, April 2025, Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Brian Austin Green shared his appendix nearly burst before surgery rescued him. “I ended up going to the emergency room, and I had a perforated appendix. Not quite burst, but just before,” he recalled on Instagram, noting it was his first major surgery.

Comedian Adam Devine also remains candid about long-term effects of injuries he suffered at 11 after being struck by a cement truck. “It’s been a nightmare,” Devine said, describing ongoing pain and limited mobility.

Back to Vergara, she’s no stranger to resilience. With her cancer triumph behind her and now tackling knee rehab a second time, she leans on medical expertise and family support. Fans can expect gradual progress updates as she gears up for her next big screen or red carpet moment.

Stay tuned, because knowing Sofía, she’ll be back on her feet—and in the spotlight—before you can say “¡Vámonos!”
