Sharon Osbourne Calls Ozzy’s Missed “Pirates of the Caribbean” Audition His “Biggest Mistake”

Sharon Osbourne Calls Ozzy’s Missed “Pirates of the Caribbean” Audition His “Biggest Mistake”
  • PublishedFebruary 20, 2025

In a recent candid moment on “The Magnificent Others With Billy Corgan,” Sharon Osbourne revealed that she once blocked her husband Ozzy Osbourne from auditioning for a role in the iconic “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, which starred Johnny Depp as the lovable rogue Captain Jack Sparrow. “He got offered to go and read for Pirates of the Caribbean… I said no. Now wouldn’t he have been perfect?” Sharon reflected, looking back on what she now considers a potentially career-defining mistake.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, which began with “The Curse of the Black Pearl” in 2003, has been a monumental success, grossing over $1.4 billion at the box office and solidifying its status as a pop culture phenomenon. Ozzy’s potential inclusion in this beloved franchise could have created a fascinating intersection between rock music and Hollywood, especially given the musical appearances of other rock icons like Keith Richards, who portrayed Captain Teague in “At World’s End” and “On Stranger Tides,” and Paul McCartney, who appeared as Uncle Jack in “Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

At the time, Ozzy was experiencing a surge in fame due to his family’s reality show “The Osbournes,” which aired from 2002 to 2005 and contributed to a significant resurge in his music career. However, Sharon’s decision reversed an opportunity that could have led to a different public perception of Ozzy, possibly broadening his appeal beyond just the music industry.

Sadly, Ozzy has faced health challenges over the years. He disclosed his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in July 2020, and in February 2023 announced his retirement from touring due to severe spinal injuries. Interestingly, this month, Black Sabbath celebrated a milestone by announcing a reunion concert in Birmingham, Ozzy’s hometown, marking the first time the original members will perform together in 20 years.

Ozzy’s story serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of fame and career opportunities in the entertainment industry while also underscoring the complexities of managing personal and professional relationships.
