Sarah Michelle Gellar Quiets Feud Rumors With Jennifer Love Hewitt

Sarah Michelle Gellar Quiets Feud Rumors With Jennifer Love Hewitt
  • PublishedJuly 16, 2025

A whisper caught between flashbulbs and fan theories, the gossip wind stirred rumors of a silent freeze in Hollywood’s nostalgia lane. Sarah Michelle Gellar, returning to the scene of I Know What You Did Last Summer on July 14 alongside her husband Freddie Prinze Jr., found herself at the eye of a speculative storm. Fans noted an absence of red-carpet snapshots with former costar Jennifer Love Hewitt and brewed a tale of an icy divide. But Gellar stepped forward two days later, scooping her own version of events right under the paparazzi’s nose.

In an Instagram comment dated July 16 on her recap of the premiere festivities, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum explained that she never actually had a chance to greet Hewitt. “I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt, who is fantastic in the movie,” she wrote. Her children, Charlotte, 15, and Rocky, 12, kept her company during the big carpet rollout, and Hewitt did not attend the subsequent after party. Gellar added that she missed many of her original cast mates because these events move at warp speed and not everything translates to social media snapshots.

While Gellar’s clarification seemed straightforward, the backstory deepens when you recall that Hewitt was asked last December whether she had influenced the new sequel’s script to write Gellar’s character off. On the You’ve Never Said This Before podcast, the 9-1-1 star laughed off any creative veto power. At 18 she had neither sway nor such intentions. “All of us were figuring it out together,” Hewitt insisted, calling her former co star and Prinze Jr. “adorable” as they’ve built a life and family.

This Hollywood refresh isn’t the first time Tinseltown talent has had to douse feud flames. Earlier this year, Bobby Berk addressed gossip of tension with fellow Queer Eye star Tan France. Speaking to Vanity Fair in January 2024, Berk assured fans that any backstage squabble was personal and unrelated to the Netflix series. France later set the record straight on Instagram, clarifying that his friend Jeremiah Brent earned his role in Beauty by merit alone—no backstage plotting required.

A more storied battle played out between Charmed alums Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano. Holly Marie Combs revived rumors last December when she claimed Milano once demanded a producer choose between her and Doherty. Milano responded that she wielded no firing power back in 2001, labeling the retelling “revisionist history.” Doherty, who passed away this July after a long fight with cancer, held firm that her version remained the true one.

Amid flashbulbs and whispers, Gellar’s Instagram post serves as a clear-sounding bell. No drama, no cold shoulders—a simple case of missed moments and busy schedules. Even in Hollywood’s rumor mill, not every missing selfie signals a feud. As the credits roll on this particular whisper, fans may exhale or brace for the next headline-bait storm. Thus, the curtain falls on this chapter of speculation, until the next spotlight beckons.
