Jennifer Aniston Takes On ‘Mom’ in Jennette McCurdy Apple TV+ Series

Jennifer Aniston Takes On ‘Mom’ in Jennette McCurdy Apple TV+ Series
  • PublishedJuly 1, 2025

Holy moly, my fourth cup of coffee just kicked in and I have GOT to tell you about this—Jennifer Aniston is diving headfirst into one of the juiciest roles of her career! The Morning Show star has signed on as lead and executive producer for an Apple TV+ dramedy based on Jennette McCurdy’s 2022 memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died. Yes, you read that right: Jen is trading in her sweet Rachel Green vibes for a chilling turn as a narcissistic stage mother.

According to the official Apple TV+ press release, Aniston, 56, will play the unnamed mother opposite a young actress portraying an 18-year-old kid-star dealing with an overbearing parent. Showrunner duties are shared with Ari Katcher, while Sharon Horgan’s Merman, LuckyChap (hello, Margot Robbie’s company!), Jerrod Carmichael and Erica Kay are also listed as executive producers. It’s a star-studded lineup primed to bring Jennette’s toxic mother-daughter saga to life.

You might recall Jennette from iCarly and Sam & Cat, and she’s been brutally honest about how her mom, Debra, manipulated and micromanaged her every move. In the memoir, Jennette recounts audition hell at age six when Debra insisted on keeping nearly ALL her earnings (“Mommy’s not gonna take any of your money except for my salary, plus essentials,” she wrote—um, what are “essentials”?). We learn about bathroom bans, forced baby wipes during breaks, shower supervision deep into teenage years, and those notorious “breast and ‘front butt’ exams” supposedly for cancer checks—yikes. Jennette even shares how her mom forbade her from crying on cue in acting class, until one tear turned into a reputation for being able to sob on demand—talk about pressure!

Jennette’s candid 2022 E! News interview reveals writing the memoir was her therapy. She spilled that she only considers returning to acting “if I write something for myself,” which makes this Apple TV+ project even more fitting. It’s like she’s reclaiming her narrative in front of and behind the camera at once.

The series promises to balance heartbreak and dark humor as it chronicles a codependent duo: a budding teen star and her identity-obsessed mother. With Aniston stepping into the role of the ultimate “stage mom” and Jennette contributing her own scars as creative consultant, viewers are in for an electrifying ride.

Will Aniston’s comedic chops handle the drama? Can Jennette watch as her real-life trauma is dramatized by Hollywood royalty? Stay tuned, grab your latte, and prepare for premiere teasers—as Aunt Who’s Had Too Much Coffee, I swear, I could buzz on about this all day, but I need a refill!
