Roach Jr. Tells Davis to Ditch the Hair Grease Before August Rematch

Roach Jr. Tells Davis to Ditch the Hair Grease Before August Rematch
  • PublishedJune 30, 2025

Could this get any more trivial? Lamont Roach Jr. reluctantly feels compelled to school Gervonta “Tank” Davis on hair-grease etiquette before they potentially rumble again. At Fanatics Fest in New York City, TMZ Sports caught up with Roach Jr., who couldn’t resist rolling his eyes at the looming rematch drama and dispensing hard-earned boxing wisdom.

Roach Jr. kicked off his unsolicited grooming advice by reminding fans that their first scrap ended in a majority draw—much to the chagrin of many who had him outboxing Davis (TMZ Sports, ESPN). He also pointed out that Davis awkwardly took a knee in Round Four after taking a stiff jab, shuffled to his corner, got his face wiped and waltzed right back into the fracas without losing any points or being credited with an official knockdown (BoxingScene, Ring Magazine). I told you so: that bizarre moment only added fuel to the fire for a sequel.

According to multiple outlets, they’re eyeing August 16 for the rematch—though Tank still hasn’t inked the contract. Bold move, considering Roach Jr. believes Davis is dragging his feet because “he’s scared to get embarrassed.” Don’t ask him about fear of Lamont the man, though. “He’s not scared of me as a man, he’s scared to get embarrassed. That’s his problem,” Roach Jr. sniffed, eyebrows practically raised to his hairline.

Hair grease aside, Roach Jr.’s more concerned about landing clean shots than Davis’s coiffure choices. He reminded everyone that what happens in the ring stays in the ring—unless you freeze mid-round for a beauty touch-up. Newsflash: boxing is about punches, not potions.

Of course, our grumpy sage also had to weigh in on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence “Bud” Crawford mega-fight set for September 13 in Las Vegas (TMZ Sports, ESPN). With the boxing world salivating over that matchup, Roach Jr. grumbled that fans “might see fireworks, but let’s hope they don’t get burned by overhyped promise.” Because apparently, even grumpy gurus have to acknowledge boxing’s biggest showdowns.

So there you have it: color-coded ringside insights, unsolicited hair-care suggestions, and the usual eye-roll at fight-game theatrics. Will Davis finally sign on the dotted line and show up grease-free? Will Roach Jr. end up embarrassed instead? Stay tuned—because that’s apparently how we decide greatness these days. And that, dear reader, is why we can’t have nice things.
