Why Céline Dion’s Inner Circle Is Head Over Heels for Titaníque

Why Céline Dion’s Inner Circle Is Head Over Heels for Titaníque
  • PublishedJune 14, 2025

Okay, so picture this: an off-Broadway musical where Céline Dion—not the actual diva, but a hilariously quirky version of her—is steering the Titanic to hilarious new depths. Titaníque has been sailing through New York and Australia for months, and co-creator Marla Mindelle just spilled the tea on how Dion’s real-life squad reacted to this love letter turned viral sensation.

Mindelle, who co-wrote and originated “Céline” alongside Constantine Rousouli and director Tye Blue, admits she never saw this runaway success coming. “We thought it was a three-month gig,” she told E! News. Fast-forward three years, and the show that started in a 100-seat space at the Asylum Theatre is now an award magnet that even caught the attention of Céline’s people. We’re talking music publishers, backup dancers, makeup artists, her personal physician from Canada—and yes, her sister—who all gave it a thumbs-up. Word is, they unanimously agreed Dion would be “so into it.”

Titaníque cleverly reframes the 1997 Titanic epic by letting Dion’s persona narrate every twist. Instead of retelling Jack and Rose’s doomed love story, the show asks, what if a conspiracy-theorist Celine believed Tina Turner resurrected herself as the iceberg? Mindelle describes her version of Dion as “quirky, genuine, heartfelt,” so much so that you buy into her wild hypotheses. And we haven’t even gotten to the musical numbers yet—beloved Céline hits like “My Heart Will Go On” get a playful remix that has audiences secretly singing along.

Speaking of crowds, Titaníque isn’t just filling theater seats with regular fans. It’s drawn a star-studded roster: Victor Garber from the original film, Billy Eichner, Neil Patrick Harris, Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Margot Robbie and even SNL big shots like Lorne Michaels all popped in. Rumor has it Matt Bomer and Cara Delevingne were spotted sneakily belting out “My Heart Will Go On” mid-show. After catching a performance, Robbie even teamed up with Mindelle on her next musical, The Big Gay Jamboree. Talk about full circle.

With its U.S. and Australian runs wrapping up, Titaníque is just getting started overseas. Mindelle—who returned for the final New York performances—says it’s bittersweet to close this chapter: “It’s crazy, it’s sad,” she admitted to E! News, “but I can’t believe how far we’ve come.” So if you missed the boat this time around, heads up: Titaníque is still charting courses through Canada and Europe. Anyway, that’s the deal. Do with it what you will.
